Jan 2015 Mtg-Hobo Christmas

Today we all managed to navigate through thick fog to make it to our monthly meeting which was at Rachel's home. We had a fun show and tell (as usual), showed off our latest Pizza Box Exchange blocks, had a Hobo Christmas gift giveaway (all hobo gifts were thanks to Rachel cleaning out her quilt/craft room) and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. Holly, who just happens to live across the street visited today for her first time. We also talked about a couple places we love to shop for discount fabrics while we're on the road which are M&L Fabrics in Anaheim, CA, FabricLand in Portland, OR and Porter's basement in Rexburg, ID.
Here are our show and tell pics:

Kathi used some house blocks from an online block exchange to make this Christmas top.
Nancy C. used plaid scraps, added a Chambray colored fabric to make this top that will be donated to humanitarian causes.

Nancy C. also made this house quilt.

Nancy C. used her leftover triangles to make this original top. She also made some infinity scarves using rayon and knit fabrics.

Julia made this cowboy quilt and used red minky fabric on the back. If you look closely, you can see the lasso quilting design she used.

Darla made a couple more lap quilts for the nursing homes. (Above and below)

Susan made this small wall hanging using wool.

Susan also made this quilt using one of the Take 5 patterns. Terri Hair machine quilted it.

This one, also made by Susan is the Take 5 pattern.

These are up close squares of a wool banner Susan made.

Here is Susan's complete banner and the pattern she used is below.

Robyn made this ruffled dress for her granddaughter.

Robyn made this quilt with the small tumblers cutting template and using our AccuQuilt.

Close up and back.

Robyn also made this 2-sided minky blanket.

This quilt top, also by Robyn is made using up some of her fat quarters.

Monica made this bag of jeans and corduroy and even used one of her son's old belts for the strap.

This is Monica's finished corduroy quilt.

Here's another jean bag by Monica. She made the quilts and put them into the jean bags as Christmas gifts for some of her children.

This is the quilt Monica made for the bag above. She used her son's old shirts.

Rachel made this baby taggy quilt using minky.

Rachel also made this soft blanket and framed it with a fur fabric. She said never cut this type of fabric, only tear it into strips to use it to keep the fur in tact.

Rachel also made a set of pillows and a throw for her couches using this faux fur.

Here's part of the hobo gifts Rachel had out for us. We drew numbers, picked a gift and then could steal from others. Even the wrapping was "hobo".

LUNCH

Individual layered Mexican dip.

Rachel made this tiered candy dish using plates and and cups.

Yummy Chicken Caesar Salad wraps.

A visitor to our meeting this month...thanks Rachel, for everything!!!

Christmas 2015-buffet

This may be posting a little late, but you know how the Christmas holidays go. Lots of family things take top priority. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are now enjoying the fresh start of a new year. Here are the pics from our meeting in December. Thank you Jeri for hosting. Your house is the perfect spot for all of us and our annual Christmas buffet!
January's meeting (Jan. 28) will be at Rachel's.

Rachel made this knit scarf using her arms as the needles. She watched an online video tutorial and used Lionheart yarn.
Once the scarf was made, Maurene quickly made this cute button attachment. She actually made it right at our meeting.

She also made this wool Christmas table topper.

Rachel made vinyl bags for kids church bags with the peek-a-boo windows.

Rachel made this using a special ruler called Sew Kind of Wonderful.

Emily made this for her sister-in-law. She used two charm packs to make the pinwheels.

Emily also made this tumbler quilt. On the back she used a dinosaur minky.

Cindy made these wool mittens using wool sweaters and their ribbings. Inside is a polar fleece lining. She found an online pattern called life hacker.

Cindy also made these slippers which have lentils in the foot and can be heated up in the microwave.

Cindy made this from donated fabric and will give it away as a humanitarian quilt.
