Material Girls Idaho: April 2019

Thank you to Cindy Anderson for hosting an enjoyable quilt group meeting this month. We all shared our completed projects from this last month, watched an Easter Egg making demonstration and enjoyed a yummy lunch.

The following three wool wall hangings are handmade by Susan Tway. Everyone oooed over these! The pattern company is "All Through The Night" by Bonnie Sullivan

One of these will go to a friend in Kentucky that Susan stays with, as a hostess gift. Susan uses Heat and Bond when she makes her wool projects.

Lenette Poole made this happy penguin quilt. She wanted to give it to her son that loves to go to Hawaii, but she isn't sure it is masculine enough. Each penguin is 37 pieces!

Maurene Lamm is back from St. George just in time to show us this baby quilt she hand quilted for a granddaughter who is expecting a baby girl. The colors were picked by the mama to be, are unexpected, but beautiful together. The pattern is "Snappy" by Swirly Girls.

This Polariod picture quilt was made by Jeanie Farnworth. She used I-spy squares of fabric that we as a quilt group exchanged. The sashing and border fabrics are 'grunge'. The layout is unique in that she made the quilt a rectangle, the longest side makes the width of the quilt. This is for her 25th! great grandchild!

Corrie Munson made this queen size quilt using ALL Denyse Schmidt fabrics. It is backed with minky and quilted by Traci Braithwaite. Corrie said this quilt is for her! as in ...she is keeping this quilt to have and to hold!

This Santa Panel Applique wall quilt was made by Corrie also. Many ladies awed over this vintage looking quilt. The fabric is Swell by Urban Chicks. This delightful quilt was quilted by Corrie's friend, Ingrid of Middleton, Idaho. The backing is a furry, very soft white minky.

The next three pictures of pillows are made by Diane Spackman. She is working on her unfinished projects this month. Good Luck to her!

Diane and her granddaughter, Kennedy, made this banner. Kennedy picked the fabrics and did all of the cutting and sewing. Diane guided her and did the ironing. It came together so! fast. The letters are made with a machine and come on sticky plastic. You place them where you want them, using a pressing cloth, you iron the letter and then peel the plastic backing off. It was slick!

Jean Hancock made this darling baby quilt...AND another one like it only with a pick elephant. She had a good friend who is expecting twin girls. The two quilts will go to her for the babies. The fabric is Amberly by Moda and the pattern is "Esmeralda and Edison Elephant: and is by Appalachian Quilters. There is a baby boy quilt also that has an elephant spewing water instead of hearts. So cute! Many of us quilters want to make this quilt!

Jeri Moore made these 4 rope bowls, practicing skills that we learned from Nancy Christensen at our last meeting. Jeri said there are two different types of rope to buy at Walmart. She stressed to go to the paint and hardware dept. to get the best (heavy duty) rope. {pictured in last month's blog post}

Jeri completed this Chevron quilt this last month. It is very striking. She told of a sister's week that she hosted her 3 sisters. They had a great memorable time, sewing, quilting and galavanting! She recommends it!
The Half Square triangle quilt pictured below was made by Jeri also. She said that used strips of fabric, sewn on both sides, then cut every 3 inches method to construct the half square triangles.

Nancy Fahnestock shared that she has been sewing with grandkids also. She advised to just let it go and let them do what they want. She showed a picture of her grandson with the drawstring soccer back pack bag that he made.

Cindy demonstrated stuffed fabric Easter eggs, using the Retro Mama egg template. Cindy sent us home with some supplies to make our own and the pattern. She purchased the cute basket at the Dollar Store.
