April 2019 meeting

Robyn Chamberlain hosted our meeting for the month of April, with Lenette Poole helping. We had a new member attend, her name is Julianne.  Thanks for coming!
There is a quilt store open in Meridian. It is called JK Quilts and is located at 770 W Ustick Rd. (by the Chevron station) A mom and 3 daughters run this store.
Nancy Christensen made this baby quilt from a panel entitled Nest or Nest Is Out. We all noted the "drappiness" of this sweet quilt. The batting is 20% wool 80% cotton by Hobbs. This is a new out batting. The backing is a vintage sheet...adds such a perfect finish for this quilt.
Nancy always makes a smaller "Dolly Quilt" from leftover scraps for the sibling of the new baby receiving the quilt.
Lenette, Cindy and Jeri all made over the shoulder purses. The pattern is from Celia's Craft Room. The swivel clips, webbing, etc. were purchased at Outdoor Wilderness Fabric in Caldwell. The address is 123 E. Simplot Rd Caldwell
These purses can be customized to how you want to use them, some even just being a cell phone holder.
So many fabric options.
This Easter bench pillow cover is a Kimberbell pattern. A different design is available for every month.
Jean Hancock made this cute project.

Jean also made this awesome dog pillow sham. It is an envelope closure. This makes for a practical item, as you can change them out. When storing, you only store the sham, not a whole pillow.

Jean made this "Hitchin' A Ride" pillow sham. The pattern is called "Hitchin A Ride"!
It is backed with wooly flannel.
Nancy Fahnestock stitched this Fall wool table mat. The F on the truck is for personalization! Very nice!  {TIP: when dying wool, adda little brown dye to any color to make is richer and it 'grounds' the color. Also, add 1/2 c. vinegar to your pot of boiling water and dye. This would be for 1/2 t. dye:  Wilton food dye. search wool dying on this blog.}
Rachel made this Springy table mat.

Robyn sewed this baby/toddler quilt using the strip method of piecing the squares. Each square finishes at 2 inches. The blue border is cut at 5.5 inches and finishes at 5 inches. The pink soft minky on the back was purchased at Hobby Lobby. Robyn quilted this on her long arm machine.

Above: All Through The Night pattern. This is a sweet doggy wool wall quilt made by Rachel. See detail below.

The above project is a Buttermilk Basin banner of the month pattern.
This table runner was made with fabric from Walmart!

This Curvy Quilt, also made by Rachel is not for the faint of heart! She said it is a challenging project. She used the quick curve ruler.

The backing is a gray minky.
This Pineapple flimsy, was made by Rachel for a friend. There are 60 pineapples with 38 pieces in each pineapple. This makes for 2,280 pieces!!!
We helped Rachel brainstorm ideas on how to quilt this complicated design.
Corrie Munson has been creating grandchild toys! These are for matching made on cubed blocks of wood.

Corrie has also been getting ready for a family reunion on the Oregon Coast this summer. This awesome (ocean/beach themed) cooking mitt is a great utilitarian gift for all the cooks to take home!
This is Memory on wood circle disks. This see through bag to keep the toys organized is genius!

Robyn talked to us about machine quilting. She showed us ideas and patterns and informed us on what she does with her quilts, which are always amazing.  She uses books by Angela Walters and designs by Lori Kennedy. She gave us some sheets of paper with design ideas (see below). We practiced with pencil, then went up to her long arm machine, and took a turn quilting. It was so fun!
The Lori Kennedy designs, patterns and tutorials were on line, but the tutorials have disappeared. The patterns are still there. Perhaps it is because Lori is now doing books.

LUNCH

Baklava made by Robyn...just the right sweetness and not too gooey!
Yummy fruit.

Vegetable plate. Robyn and Lenette sure kept us healthy with this colorful lunch.
The barbequed chicken and purple coleslaw on Naan bread was so delicious!
Here is Robyn's machine set up. She had the blue fabric on and sectioned off for each of us to use a space for our quilting. This was a new and novel activity for many of us quilters! Thanks Robyn!
See you all next month on Wednesday, May 29th at 10:00 a.m. location to be announced.
