October 2015 Meeting

Here are our pics from our last meeting at Darla's home. We had a great turn out. Thank you Darla for hosting and Marlene for helping with the delicious food! 

A quilt shop worth making a visit to according to a few of our members is in Cannon Beach, Oregon and it's called Center Diamond Fabric Store. 

Corrie shared her inspiration for her yummy breakfast tacos that she made at her quilt retreat. You can find the recipe on Layers of Happiness website.

We won't be meeting at all in November, but will have our annual potluck brunch at Sherry's on Wed. Dec. 9th at 10am. Bring some food to share, your show and tells and a wrapped gift that's under $20.

As a group, we made this quilt for Emily and her family in memory of her little baby boy who was only able to be here on earth for a short while.

Rachel made this Star of India quilt

Rachel also made this Flea Market Fancy quilt

After collecting lots of orange fabric, Rachel put it together with grey and white fabric to make this quilt called Flimsy Limeade. She got the pattern from a magazine.

This is a Christmas quilt Rachel made using one layer cake of fabric. She followed a tutorial from Missouri Star Quilts called Disappearing Pinwheel.

Darla made this quilt for her grandkids and the next few quilts to donate to a nursing home.

Corrie made several of these to turn into potholders.

Sherry made this table topper for fall. She used the Baby Vintage Quilt pattern. 

Linda made this plaid vest duster

Gwen made this Halloween costume for her son.

Darla made these gourd vases using fall foliage and gave them away as door prizes. Emiy, Gwen and Caren won.

Sept 2015 Mtg

Thank you Caren for filling in and hosting for this month. Your home and garden are beautiful. We loved the gardening tips too. I failed to get pictures this month of the luncheon, but it was all very delicious! Our October meeting will be on Oct. 28th, but we still need someone to host it. Save the date for our Christmas quilt meeting on Dec. 9th at Sherry's. We will be exchanging wrapped gifts (under $20). For next year we are also planning on making some quilts for our local Syringa House for their auction in August. Something wonderful to look forward to! 

Here are our show and tells from the meeting:

Sherry made this quilt for her son who just got married. It's a pattern called Dottie from Moda using a jelly roll.

Jeanie started this quilt several years ago and decided to finally finish it. She put minky on the back.

Maurene showed a lonestar quilt she made 25 years ago.

Corrie showed some of the fun gifts she made for those who attended her retreat last month. On the left are numbered pins to use when sewing rows together. On the right is a cute little box. One of her yummy treats for the retreat was her home made carmels. She used Martha Stewart's Gingerbread Carmel recipe. They were a big hit.

Monica showed her completed feed sack bag that the group worked on together last month.

Nancy C. made this orange peel quilt and used fusible interfacing on the backs of the petals, turned them right side out and machine stitched them onto the blocks.

Lynette made a take along ironing board using a fabric bolt board. She says she would use a heavier fabric next time.

Lynette also made these small aprons from Jolly pattern. The top is for a granddaughter and the bottom one is for a doll.

This is made from a charm pack using only triangles. Lynette is going to add borders to it.

Jeri has been spending time painting lately and brought one of her latest. We all agreed that the barn needs a quilt on the side.

August 2015 Meeting

This month we met at a local church so that we could have room to sew together. We made bags using feed sacks. Next month we'll have photos of the finished ones, hopefully. :) A few people worked on house quilts based on a quilt shared by Nancy C.

Because it was a work day, we have very few pictures. Below is a bed that Rachel's husband made for their granddaughter's American girl type doll. They will also be making a full size rendition of this very bed. The pattern for the bed can be found at Anawhite.com. Rachel made all the bedding for the bed.

July 2015 Meeting

We only had a few people attending our July meeting...so many out of town, but it was a fun meeting. We shared some tips. Here they are:

1. Binding-when doing corners and you are turning, make sure you can see a little bit of the quilt edge above the binding fold and also, when hand stitching the bidning make sure as you come to the corner that the binding doesn't get too wide.

2.When making handles, use cotton webbing on top with the fabric and topstitch

3. On curves, use pinking shears instead of clipping curves

4.If your quilt turns out wavy, try blocking it.

5.Keep a tape measure in your purse and frosted rulers are a favorite

6.Favorite seam ripper is the one with a rubber end and favorite turning device is the turning bone.

Diane made this quilt with a scrappy back. It shrunk a whole 3 inches after she washed it.

Diane also made this quilt below. Above is the back and it's paper pieced.

Cindy made this carrying bag for her Featherweight machinge with a separate bag for the machine foot.

Cindy also made these shoe bags for travelling.

Nancy C. also made a carrying bag for her Featherweight and a drawstring bag for the foot.

This is a quilt Nancy made from a patter called Suburb by Cluck Cluck Sew. She made the quilt for the Syringa House Auction and it uses a layer cake.

Maurene made this quilt and the two pillows below.

This is the book Julia used for the quilt below. The pattern is called Primrose.
