Fun August meeting at Nancy's house. Thanks to Nancy and Lenette for hosting!! It was great. Coming up is the Boise Basin Quilt Show. Read all about it at the BBQ website.
Nancy started things off with her demonstration of different methods for making flying geese. The first method is the tradition which is cutting a background rectangle and adding two squares to the corners by stitching diagonally. The tip for those is to stitch a little closer to the point on the background rather than directly on the diagonal line.
Nancy challenged each of us to make something using any of the flying geese methods and then bring it to our October meeting.
This second method is from Jenny Doan with Missouri Star Quilt Company. It's called a one seam flying geese.
This next method is using a paper roll and doing paper piecing. Nancy bought her rolls through Walmart.com where she found the best prices. They come in different sizes depending on what you need for your quilt.
This last method is Nancy's favorite. She learned how to do it with a tutorial from Connecting Threads. It's the "No waste" tutorial. The first tutorial on that link shows the traditional method, so read further down for the "No Waste" method.
Also she loves using this ruler to mark her quarter inch seam lines. It's called a quick quarter.
We also brought a lot of the finished pillowcases which we are donating to the children's wing at St. Luke's Hospital. Here are some of them:
